The China–Kazakhstan International Joint Laboratory for High-Water-Efficiency Agriculture in Arid Regions convened the Second International Symposium on Smart, High-Water-Efficiency Agriculture in Arid Areas.
In the arid regions of Central Asia, every drop of water is critical to food security. As groundwater levels in Almaty Region continue to decline and soil salinization worsens year after year, a science‑driven effort to determine “how to sustain this land with the least amount of water” is gaining momentum.
From August 3 to 5, 2026, the Second International Symposium on Smart, High-Water-Efficiency Agriculture in Arid Regions will be held in Almaty, Kazakhstan. This conference is organized by China Agricultural University, Kazakh National Agrarian Research University ( KazNARU) and the National Academy of Sciences directly under President Xi Co-organized, is Relying on “ International Joint Laboratory for High-Water-Efficiency Agriculture in Arid Regions of China and Kazakhstan ” It is a premier annual platform for high-level academic exchange and a key implementation of the outcomes of the China–Kazakhstan heads-of-state meeting. Dayu Irrigation, as one of the members of the tripartite laboratory, was invited to attend the conference. Cui Jing, Senior Vice President of Dayu Group, Chairman of Dayu Equipment Development Group, and Vice Chair of the Joint Laboratory Management Committee, attended and delivered a presentation titled 《From Research to Real-world Applications 》Special Report , it presented the enterprise’s end-to-end water-saving innovations and the progress of the Almaty demonstration project.

At the opening ceremony, Akhylbek Kurishbayev, Rector of the Kazakh National Agrarian Research University 、 Su Fangqiu, Consul General of China in Almaty 、 Marat Imanaliev, Director of the Department of Science and Technology Innovation, Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation 、 Du Taisheng, Vice President of China Agricultural University In their separate addresses, they expressed strong recognition of the potential for China–Kazakhstan cooperation in water‑saving agriculture and underscored the importance of leveraging the joint laboratory to advance the co‑construction of field research stations and the development of locally adapted technologies.

The forum has established two sub-forums: Smart Agriculture Technology and Water Resources Management. Academician Kang Shaozhong of the Chinese Academy of Engineering Hand in hand Experts and scholars from multiple countries and Representative of an international organization , engaging in in-depth dialogue on cutting-edge issues such as saline-alkali land improvement, digitalization of irrigation districts, and transboundary water transfer, to jointly explore pathways for the efficient utilization of water resources and the development of modern agriculture in arid regions. Academician Kang Shaozhong delivered a keynote address titled 《 Introduction to the State Key Laboratory of Efficient Utilization of Agricultural Water Resources》 In his presentation, he systematically shared the latest research advances of the State Key Laboratory in the field of agricultural water productivity. At the conclusion of his talk, he extended a warm invitation to professors and faculty members of the Kazakh National Agrarian University, expressing his hope to meet next year in Shiyanghe, Wuwei, Gansu, where they will jointly attend the Third International Symposium on Smart, High‑Efficiency Agriculture in Arid Regions. He emphasized the importance of advancing China–Kazakhstan academic cooperation and knowledge sharing, thereby injecting new momentum into the sustainable development of agriculture in the arid zones of Central Asia.
Cui Jing The report systematically outlines how the company has established a comprehensive industrial closed-loop, encompassing irrigation terminals, water‑delivery and distribution control equipment, field‑level smart terminals, acoustic cloud‑seeding systems, and an intelligent cloud platform. All products have been adapted and optimized to meet the specific conditions in Kazakhstan, including highly silt‑laden water sources, soil salinization, and extreme aridity.

In addition, Cui Jing reported on the latest progress of the joint laboratory’s research and practice base—the Almaty Region Smart Agriculture Demonstration Site: to date, site surveys and soil salinization assessments have been completed, and scientific studies are underway, employing various irrigation methods and cropping systems tailored to large-scale cultivation of crops such as corn and drought‑tolerant alfalfa. Meanwhile, on behalf of the Group, she donated “One-hectare (one-acre) modular drip irrigation kit” This kit can meet the irrigation needs of various applications, such as small farms and home vegetable gardens.

Looking ahead, Dayu Irrigation will leverage the China–Kazakhstan International Joint Laboratory for High-Water-Efficiency Agriculture in Arid Regions and the Almaty Region Smart Agriculture Demonstration Base to advance Four measures : Establish standardized field research and experimental stations; jointly conduct water‑saving research tailored to Central Asia; regularly organize technical training and personnel exchanges; and export end-to‑end equipment and digital management solutions to the countries of Central Asia. This forum represents a key initiative by Dayu Irrigation to implement the Belt and Road cooperation initiative and fulfill the consensus reached between the heads of state of China and Kazakhstan. The company will continue to deepen industry–university–research collaboration, leveraging technological innovation to address water‑resource constraints in arid regions and provide a replicable Chinese model for regional food security and the green transformation of agriculture.
